Friends Bring Unique Experience to Middle Tennessee
In 2016, lifelong friends Maliyah Bass and Bariangela Segovia took a spring break trip to New York City, seeking fun and new experiences away from their homes in Middle Tennessee. What they found has turned into a one-of-a-kind business venture: rolled ice cream.
After seeing the popularity of the rolled treat in New York and trying the popular Thai-inspired dessert, which is quite literally ice cream rolled into cylinders with fun flavors and mix-ins, the duo thought it could make for a good business venture back home. Two years later, Bass and Segovia opened Rolled 4 Ever Ice Cream and began serving from their food truck, The Roll Bus.
Though they were fresh college graduates starting their own business, they had plenty of support. Bass’ parents own and operate the popular Smokin’ Buttz BBQ food truck and catering, and her church sold them the truck that would turn into The Roll Bus for $1,500. They also had a partner with Ascend, which is proud to support small businesses like Rolled 4 Ever with a full suite of accounts and services.
“We wanted to work with a local financial institution that has roots in Middle Tennessee, like us,” Bass and Segovia said. “We appreciate Ascend and its focus on helping small businesses in our area thrive.”
As The Roll Bus grew in popularity in its first couple of years, the partners decided to expand the business. They opened a storefront in Nashville in 2020 and launched The Roll Academy the next year, an interactive rolled ice cream-making class for individuals or parties to learn about the dessert and create custom flavors.
The Roll Academy offers experiences for individuals or groups of up to eight people, including team bonding events, birthday parties, or bachelorette parties.
Rolled 4 Ever Ice Cream recently celebrated the grand opening of its expanded space inside the indoor Market House at the Nashville Farmers Market. In addition to serving its signature rolled ice cream and handcrafted popsicles daily, the brand continues to host its popular hands-on ice cream making classes inside the Market. The Roll Bus is also still available for bookings and catering throughout Middle Tennessee.
What started as a fun experience during a college spring break trip has turned into one of Middle Tennessee’s most unique small businesses — and one of its tastiest.
