We offer youth accounts in an effort to educate our youngest members and help them create wise saving and spending habits early. These accounts encourage and reward financial responsibility, and as children grow, these accounts grow with them.
Ages 12 and under
Savings account.
Ascend makes the $5 opening deposit required to open the account.
Dividends are earned daily and credited back to the account each month.
Ages 13 to 17
Savings account and option to add on a checking account.
Ascend makes the $5 opening deposit and waives the $20 minimum opening deposit for the Free Checking account.

Savings, Legacy checking, Preferred checking, and Christmas Club accounts are variable rate accounts, and the rates may change. The Annual Percentage Yields (APYs) stated are accurate as of December 1, 2022. There is no minimum balance required to earn the APYs stated. The minimum opening deposit on a savings account is $5.00. The minimum opening deposit on a checking account is $20.00 or establishment of incoming automatic transfer or direct deposit. *Members must be 13 years or older to be eligible for a checking account.
**Preferred Checking is no longer offered and is only available to members who had Preferred Checking prior to October 1, 2023.

- Can I open a youth account online?
To open a youth account, you will need to visit an Ascend branch location. Schedule an appointment today.
- Can I transfer money from my account to my child's youth account?
Yes, you can transfer money to your child's youth account if you are joint owner on the account and you have established cross-account transfer. You can transfer funds with Ascend's app, online banking, on the telephone, or in person at a branch.
- What happens to my Ascend Youth Account when I turn 18?
At 18, you are no longer eligible for an Ascend youth account. With your graduated checking account, you will still enjoy the same account features. However, please note there will be a fee for any checks you order. Visit our Rates Dashboard for current rates and fees.
- How do I report a lost or stolen ATM, debit, or credit card?
To report your credit card lost or stolen, or if you have questions about disputing a transaction or a dispute in progress, please contact the credit union at 800-342-3086.
