Ascend Federal Credit Union is pleased to welcome Mark Blazek as its new senior vice president and chief information officer.

The Minnesota native was an Information Technology (IT) Executive at USAA Federal Savings Bank in San Antonio, Texas, before joining Ascend. Blazek’s background at USAA includes digital banking, mobile apps, core banking operations, and running IT like a business.

“The business of financial services involves keeping promises and managing members’ money, rather than moving physical products out the door. We do this with a 100 percent reliance on technology,” he said. “I believe that IT is another business department inside of the organization. The work that we do every day impacts our members directly. IT needs to be accountable for enabling business outcomes, delivering exceptional member experiences, and diligent financial management - just like every other business department in the credit union. This encompasses the strategic vision and operational discipline that I bring to Ascend.”

Blazek has a bachelor of business administration degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Houston, and he will complete a master’s degree in Technology Commercialization from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2019.

With more than $2 billion in assets and more than 196,000 members, Ascend is the largest credit union in Middle Tennessee and one of the largest federally chartered credit unions in the United States. The National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) selected Ascend as the 2015 Federal Credit Union of the Year. Ascend is federally insured by NCUA.
